Sunday Funday: Bandos, Cameras and Olympus Gang

March 27, 2018  •  Leave a Comment

This past weekend took Paco and I East to Eaton Rapids, Michigan. where we linked up with the homies Jamie MacDonald and Seth Duimstra as we set off on a mission to photograph Bandos.

What's in my bag

Olympus EM1 Mark II

Olympus 7-14mm f2.8 pro

Olympus 25mm f1.2 Pro

Olympus 12-40 f2.8 Pro

DJI Mavic pro

Vanguard Veo 2

Our first stop was an old abandoned factory right on the edge of town. Unfortunately for us it was sealed tight. so we spent some time walking the perimeter shooting objects and textures and checking every door along the way ;)

I started off shooting the Olympus EM1 Mark II witht the 25mm f1.2 pro on it, the 25mm has became my favorite lens in my arsenal with that buttery f1.2 aperture, it pretty much lives on my camera. I soon realized, I was loosing a lot of realestate shooting so tight so I opened it up with the Olympus 7-14 f2.8 pro for a wider prospective. I was a little disappointed we couldn't get inside but hey, can't win them all right?

Here are some images from the factory

After leaving the Factory we headed west to shoot the Abandoned train cars, Jamie has done a few photoshoots here and was feeling charitable sharing this little gem with us. The train sits on some tracks that are no longer in use and overgrown with foliage much so, that if you didn't know they were there you will miss them every time. the funny thing is hwy M50 is visible from the location. we had to walk down the track about half a mile then around a bend but as you make the turn......there they are it was like a scene from The Walking Dead. it's was pretty cool to see these train cars just abandoned and in the middle of nowhere. I tried to climb on top of the cars but the brush kept me from getting up there. we snapped some photos inside and flew the drones around them for a bit then headed on to the next location.

The Next and Last Location was an Abandoned house that is in such bad shape its def not safe being in. I walked into what appeared to be a living room, after about three or four steps I could see the basement through the floor and the sky through the ceiling. there were boards and holes everywhere. I decided not to risk either something collapsing from under me or something falling onto my head so I went back out side. We walked the property capturing the debris and textures of what was once a beautiful home but is not just rotting away. As the hunger set in and the sun was going down we decided to call it a day and go grab some food.

So we wrapped up the day by having dinner at a great little place in Eaton Rapids called Darb's Patio where I devoured a wet burrito that was pretty darn good. We recapped the days event's and talked about some places we should visit in the near future, over food with good company. For me this is what being a photographer is all about. getting to spend time and exploring with people that have the same passion I do for it all. So a big thank you to Jamie for hosting us on his turf and showing us some of his spots. Thanks to Seth for coming out to hang and Thanks to Allen for driving us a crossed the state.
